On February 22, 2022, Maksym's family woke up to terrifying sounds. The explosions shook their house, and the frightened children could not move. The war broke into the happy, carefree childhood of the two children of the Mamedov family. And their native Kherson, a land that has always been associated with hospitality, ripe watermelon and the sea, was under occupation.
The family had been living under shelling for over 7 months, and it was impossible to leave. The day when the blue and yellow flag flew again on the administrative building was the most long-awaited holiday. It seemed like everything would be fine, everything would work out. But the family did not know what terrible trials lay ahead...
"Mom, I'm sick!" - Maksym caught the virus, but the disease was unusual. Against the background of high fever and the usual manifestations of ARVI, the boy had difficulty moving, his muscles ached, and he had no strength. The symptoms were attributed to a severe viral illness, until Maksym had a severe seizure with loss of consciousness - then the boy was urgently taken to the intensive care unit, his condition was serious.
It turned out that a tumor had been growing in the boy's skull for a long time. In addition, Maksym was diagnosed with hydrocephalus, multiple encephalomyelitis, and seizure syndrome. The boy was fitted with a drainage system and warned: "The situation is complicated, we can't make any predictions about the future." More and more medicines appeared on the hospital table every day, and the budget of the family that survived the occupation was melting before our eyes.
"When your child is fighting for his life, you do anything to help him. No hesitation, no doubts - if the doctor says that certain medicines can alleviate your son's condition, you have to buy them," Maksym's family reflected. In such a situation, the worst thing is to find yourself with an empty wallet. But that's exactly what happened to the boy's family, and within a few days in the hospital they spent tens of thousands of hryvnias - all they had.
That's when you and your support came into Maksym's and his family's lives! The realization that you are not alone, constant income that helped to buy medicines, warm comments - all this became a support that helped to endure and not give up.
Today Maksym is feeling better. He is working hard to regain the ability to move freely: he goes to the gym every day, and then sits down with his textbooks to catch up on his studies. The disease still gives signs, but the boy can already walk without support and is very happy about it.
Maksym says that no matter how scary those days in the hospital were, he often remembers them. After all, they turned his worldview upside down and awakened his desire to be useful to society. Despite the fact that the boy's condition is not yet fully stable, Maksym is already helping others. He cooperates with volunteers, helps with collections, and supports seriously ill children.
Thus, the good you shared with Maksym has multiplied and is being passed on, and the rescued boy himself becomes a salvation and support for others. We are very proud of the brave Maxim and his family and thank everyone who helped save the boy. You are incredible!
Perhaps Maxim's story will inspire you to do another good deed for seriously ill children. You can find out the stories of our wards who urgently need help, view their photos and documents here.
