"Your son has no chance, he won't walk, talk, eat or dress himself" - the doctors gave Bohdan no chance for a full-fledged future. According to them, the boy was going to live a "vegetable life", a severe disability with no prospects. Bohdan's diagnosis was hemimegalencephaly, a congenital CNS defect in which one of the cerebral hemispheres grows larger and has an irregular structure.
This diagnosis knocked the ground from under Bohdan's mother's feet. Should she give up, as doctors advise, and forget about all her dreams, hopes, and aspirations? The loving mother decided that if there was even a tiny chance to improve her son's condition, she had to fight for it.
Bohdan's mother, Mariana, says that the worst part was at the beginning. Back then, the woman knew little about her son's diagnosis, gathered information from everywhere, looked for rehabilitation specialists, and worked with her son on her own. There was neither a clear plan nor a complete understanding of what to expect. Only a fierce desire to save her son, to win a chance for the future.
Her own funds ran out quickly, and she had to raise money for treatment all over Ukraine. Initially, almost no one believed in Bohdan's recovery, people were reluctant to donate, blaming the boy's family for unrealistic expectations. But Bohdan developed, and his achievements amazed not only ordinary people but also those doctors who had once called the boy hopeless.
Bohdan has become a unique child because, despite his extremely difficult diagnosis, he was able not only to get back on his feet and learn to express his thoughts, but also to go to school on time and master the school curriculum. Yes, Bohdan's school life is not without its difficulties - sometimes the child needs additional explanations, sometimes he needs physical assistance. But year after year, Bohdan gains new knowledge, experience and friends.
Bohdanchyk continues to undergo regular rehabilitation, spends hours practicing at home, and has many goals and plans. Minor motor impairments are still noticeable, but in the near future Bohdanchyk can overcome them. Now the boy is focused on walking more confidently, learning to speak more clearly, and getting rid of epileptic seizures, which are currently causing him the most discomfort.
Bohdan considers himself a lucky child. He is self-confident and loves to support others - especially those who, like him, are struggling with terrible diseases or difficult disabilities. The boy's case gives faith to hundreds of families with special children and teaches doctors not to rush to make prognoses...
"Don't give up, no matter how hard it is mentally or physically. It's worth it, because miracles do happen, and you have to believe in them, " says Bohdanchyk's mother. The brave woman and loving mother fondly remembers everyone who came to her aid, remembers the support and every donation that helped save her son. We thank those who contributed to Bohdan's fundraising! You have become part of a miracle that turned the idea of a serious illness around and gave the boy the life he dreamed of!
